Building more and renovating better: the keys to expanding public and affordable housing
The second issue of Quaderns d’Habitatge explores the challenges of housing development, renovation and innovation applied to housing.
Published by the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Housing and Rehabilitation (IMHAB), the second issue of Quaderns d’Habitatge focuses on how to expand and improve Barcelona’s public and affordable housing stock. The publication addresses affordable housing development, the renovation of existing housing stock, urban renewal and innovation applied to construction, featuring data, experiences and specific case studies that provide valuable insights into understanding and addressing the main housing challenges we face today.
More public and affordable housing
The publication addresses the development of affordable housing, the different models for public and affordable housing provision, and urban renewal. It also highlights the need to speed up land development, improve coordination between the stakeholders involved and make housing development processes more efficient.
Renovation and innovation to address current challenges
Another key focus is the renovation of the existing housing stock, with measures aimed at improving accessibility, safety, comfort and energy efficiency, particularly in neighbourhoods with greater needs.
The publication also focuses on the industrialisation of construction, a way to reduce construction times and move towards more efficient and sustainable buildings. The content is complemented by international experiences and examples of housing development, renovation and industrialised construction.
The publication was presented at Ca l’Alier during an event dedicated to sharing experiences in public housing development and management.
