More than 100 speakers will take part in around 20 sessions dedicated to urban planning, public and affordable housing, regulation, innovation and renovation. Organised by Barcelona City Council as part of the Smart City Expo World Congress, the Housing World Summit will take place from 3 to 5 November at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue.

Sharing solutions to the housing challenge

HOWS Barcelona is an international platform designed to share policies, models and experiences that can help address the challenges of accessing housing. The programme combines presentations, panel discussions and sessions featuring specialists and public policy leaders from cities and countries around the world.

Topics will include urban planning and land policies, the development of public and affordable housing, innovation in housing production and the renovation of existing housing stock. Other key issues, such as regulation, financing and urban regeneration, will also be addressed.

An international programme featuring more than 100 experts

HOWS Barcelona will bring together representatives from governments, cities, public and private developers, third-sector organisations, academia and institutions. Featured international speakers will include Anne Hidalgo, former Mayor of Paris; Anna Minton, Professor of Architecture at the University of East London; and Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat.

HOWS Barcelona will take place as part of the Smart City Expo World Congress, connecting the housing debate with other urban challenges, including sustainability, mobility, climate resilience and social cohesion.

Site visits to explore housing projects first-hand

Alongside the congress, guided visits will be organised to Marina del Prat Vermell and Illa Acer, a public housing development. These visits will offer insights into the area's urban transformation and the challenges involved in developing new affordable housing.

The visits will take place on 3 and 5 November and are open to people accredited to HOWS Barcelona or the Smart City Expo World Congress.
