48h Open House BCN returns on 24 and 25 October with a new edition that opens buildings, spaces and architectural projects across the city and its metropolitan area to the public. Housing will play a prominent role, with visits focusing on public housing development and residential innovation, including the industrialised housing development at Avinguda del Carrilet, 20-22, and the Wikihousing project.

A closer look at public housing

The participation of the Housing Department offers residents the opportunity to discover projects that demonstrate different approaches to today's housing accessibility challenges.

The visit to the industrialised housing development at Avinguda del Carrilet, 22-24 will provide an insight into a project comprising 40 homes designed to expand the city's affordable housing stock.

The visit will take place on Saturday, from 10 am to 2 pm, as a guided tour, with no perior registration required.

Wikihousing, a model based on participation and sustainability

The festival also features Wikihousing, located at Passeig de l'Exposició, 38, a project that explores new approaches to developing public housing for young people. The initiative combines participatory co-design, prefabrication, assisted self-construction and modular systems using reused materials.

The project highlights more sustainable and collaborative models, as well as new ways of approaching housing construction and access.

The visit will take place on Sunday, from 10 am to 2 pm, also as a guided tour, with no perior registration required.

48h Open House BCN is an initiative organised by the Associació 48h Open House Barcelona, which holds an annual open-house weekend to bring architecture closer to the public.
