Eleven young people have received the keys to homes with affordable rents at C/ Diputació 354, in a building acquired through the right to first refusal in 2024 and currently being renovated. The building has 23 homes, 22 of them for people aged under 35 and on the Register of Applicants for Officially Protected Housing.

Renovation adapted to the state of each home

The renovation work was adapted to the state of each home. Seventeen flats have now been completed, with work ranging from the renovation of finishes, electrical appliances, paving and tiles to the complete revamp of bathrooms and kitchens.

Five homes are still being worked on and should be completed by the end of the year. Communal spaces will also be renovated, as will the rear façade and the balconies. The electrical installations all over the building have been updated and the gas taken out of service.

A total of 22 affordable homes for young people

Of the 23 homes in the building, one still has a tenant with an old rental contract and the other 22 have been awarded via a draw among the under-35s on the register. Six have been reserved for local people from the neighbourhood.

Rents range from 350.39 to 459 euros a month, depending on the useful floor space of each home, with communal costs and the property tax on top.

The renovation regains homes in a dense area such as L’Eixample, where the availability of land to build new housing is limited.

A building purchased through the right to first refusal

The building was acquired in 2024 through the right to first refusal, an instrument allowing for suitable buildings to be added to the housing stock, particularly when they have more than ten empty homes.
