The city of Barcelona is once again recognising the careers and impact of women in the world of sport with the 17th edition of the Women and Sport Award. Since 2006, this award has become a benchmark in the struggle for the equality and visibility of women in sport.

In this year’s edition, the award has five categories which encompass the diversity of women’s sport:

• Mireia Tapiador Award for Sports Promotion: This is for women who have excelled in their efforts to disseminate and promote women’s sport.
• Best Sportswoman Award: This recognises the dedication, athletic accomplishments and social role of women athletes.
• Best Media Award: This awards media efforts to disseminate and promote events, activities and successes related to women in sport.
• Best Sports Club Award: This recognises a Barcelona club’s efforts to promote women’s sport.
• Best Woman Sports Manager Award: This awards the career of women in managerial or executive positions in sport.

The Women and Sport Award is acknowledgement of the important contribution women make to the world of sport and a tool to promote equality in this field.
