Three months with more than 230 shows at 36 venues all over the city
On 8 February we start a new Barcelona Districte Cultural: the 15th edition of the circuit that brings culture to the neighbourhoods with more than 230 open-access shows!
A total of 31 musical groups and performing arts companies, as well as three internationally award-winning animated films, make up what will be the 15th edition of Barcelona Districte Cultural, the circuit of the network of civic centres that brings culture to the neighbourhoods. In total, more than 235 open-access performances, with special passes for the city’s schools and high schools, programmed in 36 venues in the Civic Centres and in the halls of educational centres. In addition, some of these performances will be accompanied by talks, lectures, presentations or complementary activities organised in parallel, which we will be informing you about on this website.
Quality cultural proposals and emerging shows
The theatre offer is made up of 9 proposals. Plays that speak directly of dramas such as the one about immigration in El Rey del Gurugú, by La Nave Va, or that reflect on the perils of aesthetic pressure, as in Adeu, Jane! by Binomi; there is theatre that is self-fiction about family relationships, as in Mi madre en bragas, by the company Cándida; and there are proposals for theatre committed to current affairs, such as that of director Pau Carrió and actress Laura Aubert: Des de l’ull de l’huracà, a dramatic poem about information on war zones. Also theatre that wants to give value, love and sense of humour to the accompaniment of dementias such as Alzheimer’s like Pòsit, the play that Meritxell Yanes Font presents to the circuit and tributes such as the one that Nan Valentí returns to the republican teachers of La Primera i les mestres de la Republica.
We have programmed 7 very different circus proposals, from local and international companies, and for all ages: poetic proposals such as the surprising show by Jordi Panareda, L’home que perdia els botons; oniric proposals such as the one of the fixed trapeze and the tricks of Cèlia Marcé Oller at Nus. There are shows where humour is mixed with magic, as in the case of Hotel Bucarest by the company TotalCirc, and there are others that mix acrobatics, such as Penjats by the company Los Colgados, or family circus, such as Solo de dos by the company Duo x Caso. In this edition there are circus artists who have travelled all over the world, such as the Brazilian Tita8lou, who presents the clown show Miss Margherita, or the company Sempre Arriba, who come from Galicia to surprise us with the aerial acrobatics of C’est pas Possible.
Concerts are cultural and social events that also require a space of proximity. For this reason, the BDC has 9 live music proposals, an equal offer in genre and with very different musical styles: in this edition there is a marriage of song and electronics with the pianist Miranda Fernández; pop in capital letters with the singer-songwriter Carlota Flâneur; intimate songs with the singer and guitarist Eva Sierra from Madrid and also rural rap by the Castilla la Mancha artist Bewis De La Rosa. In addition, we will also have the hurricane of Soul and Funk of Marina BBFace & The Beatroots and the energy of the transvestite subnopunk of Ruïnosa and the Strippers of Rahola.
Among the 6 dance proposals, there is EGO, by the company Humancía: a contemporary dance that reflects on the selfishness and individualism of today’s society; Soy Madera, by Elelei Dance Theatre Company, a dance solo in which wood is the protagonist; Scotoma, by Clementine & Lisard, which will invite you to observe the meeting of two people immersed in their own world; Handle with care, by Diana Gadish, which will show the fragility of human beings with humour and simple elements such as cardboard boxes and papers, and El baile de la zurda, by LaCerda, which will transport you to a Latin American party where joy and tragedy meet.
Shows and films for the whole family
We want the performing arts to reach the youngest audiences and that’s why we are programming shows such as those of the dance company Roberto G. Alonso, which returns to the circuit this time with Marúnica, a work that transports children to the world of the surrealist painter Maruja Mallo. There are also proposals that discover the pleasure of listening to music for the little ones, such as Sona la llum! by La Curiosa, or Rebobina! by the company CapGira. We also have theatre for all audiences, ironic and engaging, by the Farrés brothers, who present Dins el cau del Tabalet, and the puppets of the Basque company Anita Maravillas, who present Las Cotton, among other proposals.
Petit Cineclub, dedicated to animated films aimed at children between 2 and 10 years old, continues to form part of the circuit with ludic and didactic presentations with Billy and Milly Oncle in dynamic family sessions. In this spring edition we have three films: Tony, Shelly and the Magic Lantern; Yuku and the Himalayan Flower and Ernest and Célestine’s Journey.
All these shows and the rest of the free activities can be found on the Barcelona Cultural District website, where you can also book venues.
